Are Brinsea incubators good?
Summary. The Brinsea Ex 28 and 56 with Automatic Humidity control are my favorites of all incubators. The incubators hold humidity and temperature at the levels I set them to and turn the eggs on schedule. I get fabulous hatch rates and have slowly sold off all other incubators and upgraded to the Ex models.

The lower the height the more the chicks will be heated as they nestle underneath the heat plate. When in doubt, set the brooder to about 3” for standard chicks and watch their behavior to be able to tell whether you should raise it.

How do I know if my brooder is warm enough?
If they huddle together under the heat lamp, they are too cold. If they scatter away from the heat lamp and avoid the area directly under it, they are too warm. If they are evenly and randomly spread throughout the brooder, they are just right.
How tall should my brooder be?
The container needs to be at least 12 inches tall for chicks in weeks one to three, but by the time they are six weeks old the walls should be 24 inches high to keep them from hopping out. Or, you can add a lid.
